There are so many delicious foods out there, and especially for the foodie, it is always a great adventure to try new things and check on developments with different kinds of food. However, it may not always be good for one’s health to snack on a lot of the same kind of food. It is the same when your intake is of the same food group. It is not good to overload, for example, on carbohydrates if you are not always active enough to be able to burn them. But you may not be able to control it because you have a sweet tooth or just need to get your fix everyday. For that, you should try sugar free desserts as a new addition to your diet. These have alternative ingredients that offer the same taste as if sugar was actually used in making them, even if it was really not.
Since I am from South Asia, naturally I like South Asian dishes such as Indian, Bangladeshi and Nepali food. For the purpose of this article, I am going to generalize all South Asian dishes as Indian food. Most Americans do not understand what Nepali or Bengali food is but everyone knows about Indian food.
So why do I like Indian food so much? The reason is that it smells great and it tastes awesome. When you mix spices such as turmeric, cumin, and curry powder, the food not only looks good but also delicious.
Another reason I like food from South Asia is because I always grew up eating Indian food every day. If you grow up eating hamburgers, French fries, peanut butter and cheese, you like them for the rest of your life. Since I did not grow up eating Western food, the smell and sight of peanut butter and cheese gives me a headache. So I completely understand why some Westerners absolutely hate the smell of Indian food.
I am also a vegetarian. When you are a vegetarian, you do not have many options for your menu in the United States. My option is limited to salad and vegetarian sandwich in non-Indian restaurants in the United States. But I do not find salad and sandwiches either filling or tasty.
So I have to eat Indian food to satisfy my craving for veggies and curry. This is not so bad because Indian food also tends to be very healthy.
Indian food also provides a great balanced meal for vegetarians. Rice and lentils combined provide a good amount of complete protein. The vegetable curry provides great antioxidants that detoxify my body and improve my health.
Slowly several of my Western friends are starting to get used to the taste of Indian food. This is good news because I like to cook and I want to show off my Indian cooking to them.
Visiting my favorite restaurant with my husband is my favorite past time. We love eating at various Thai restaurants around town. This year for Valentine’s day I decided I would make our favorite Thai dish at home. He always loves it when we order Green Curry Chicken dishes. So when I found a briliant mae ploy green curry recipe on my favorite recipe site I was very eager to make it. The recipe is very easy to follow. Before the rice was even cooked I had dinner ready. Next time I will be sure to start the rice before I start chopping veggies. All I did was cut up chicken and stir fried it in a regular pan. No Calphalon Wok was required. Then I stir fried regualr eggplant. The recipe calls for Japanize eggplant but I did not have time to run to the Aisan store. Once I cooked those two ingredients I mixed in the rest and dinner was served.
I’m always up for some new technology, and I like to keep up with the latest trend. So it’s only natural that I went looking for the rice cooker that comes with induction heating system which I saw on several online rice cooker reviews. The rice cooker with newest technology on the market incorporates induction heating and micro computer technology. Among its features include superior induction heating (IH) technology and healthy cooking options of brown rice, GABA brown rice and germinated brown rice. The 5-1/2-cup rice cooker and warmer with micro computer technology also comes fully equipped with superior induction heating that evenly distributes heat for excellent results, with multi-menu cooking functions, LCD control panel, keep warm, timer, spatula, spatula holder, as well as rice-measuring cup. The unit’s clear-coated stainless-steel exterior not only cleans easily, but also matches any kitchen decor. All in all, I’m truly happy with my purchase, and I suggest you browse through some reviews first before you buy anything.
You would not believe it, but it may turn out that the best weapon in my arsenal for promoting better health may actually be my coffee makers that I use each and every day. I went to the doctor a few days ago for an annual check up. I was almost not going to go, I really do not enjoy going to see the doctor, but my wife insisted I go, so to shut her up I made an appointment. I of course had to sit in the waiting room for about forty five minutes, when the doctor finally saw me he did some basic tests and took some blood and a urine sample. After testing the urine he said he thought I might have pre-diabetes, and that along with watching my sugar and carbohydrate intake I should drink more coffee. This was music to my ears of course, I love coffee.
At the beginning of every year, I will do a complete inventory of all the supplies in our restaurant to see what we need to order. While I do order throughout the year when we run out of something, I only do one major order and it is that time of the year again. I am letting my partner handle the food side while I see what bar supplies we will need since we added a couple of things. We have started carrying a larger assortment of wine so I knew that we would need a nice wine rack so our patrons could see for themselves what we have. I also wanted to get some wine chillers and bottle stands too. Everything else seemed to be in good shape so I just finished off the order with some mixes, purees and syrups since a lot of people come just for one of our famous drinks.
